About the Agency : The Mississippi Public Service Commission supervises and regulates certain communication companies, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities. It is the Commission's responsibility to see that rates and charges for service are just and reasonable, that approved rates are adhered to, that utility service is reasonably adequate, and that facilities constructed or acquired by utilities are required to serve the public. About the Position : The Southern District seeks a qualified professional to serve as a Customer Service Representative. This person will be a valued member of the complaint investigative staff and responsible for handling consumer complaints of the Southern District. A Customer Service Representative will be assigned multiple complaints a day so an ability to multitask is essential. It is the Customer Service Representatives' job to ensure utility customers are receiving fair and adequate service from their provider.

What you'll need to be Successful : Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

  • High school degree or GED Equivalent
  • Experience with office equipment (i.e., fax, printer, scanner, etc.)
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Multitasking and time management skills
  • Ability to be present in the office during regular business hours
  • Professional attitude and appearance.

Preferred Qualifications : Typically requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.

    Examples of Work

    This is level-two Customer Service Representative work accountable for assisting with providing customer service that requires knowledge of procedures and processes within a specific area or function. At this level, employees provide information, answers, and guidance using technical knowledge acquired through experience. Performance of work requires the employee to organize their work on a daily or weekly basis and exercise independence and judgment that is greater than lower-level positions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Typically requires High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience.

    Flexible Spending Accounts

    Many state agencies provide opportunity for employees to participate in pre-tax spending accounts. These accounts allow employees to withhold childcare expenses and unreimbursed medical expenses prior to application of state and federal taxes.

    Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

    Military Leave

    In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
