About the Agency : East Mississippi State Hospital's mission is to provide the highest level of health care services through integrated behavioral health programs.
About the Position : Professional Patient Records position accountable for the maintenance of medical and psychiatric records of patients admitted to state hospitals or juvenile training schools. Jobs at this level review medical record charts to determine compliance with standards established by state statute; index, code, and file medical records and related correspondence; and locate and retrieve medical records upon request from an authorized agency, hospital, or physician.
What you'll need to be Successful : Duties include but are not limited to : Assists Records Specialist Team Lead in performing daily duties, receives incoming calls regarding treatment for psychiatric and substance abuse, have knowledge of laws regarding psychiatric and substance abuse commitments in the state of MS, processes incoming admissions and verifies demographic information, manages office supplies, enters data for new clients in the health records systems, and others duties assigned by the Records Specialist Team Lead.
Preferred Qualifications : Typically requires 4-6 years of relevant experience with 2-4 years of medical records experience. Appointing authority may require certification in any one of the following : Registered Health Information Management Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT);Certified Coding Associate (CCA); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); Certified Professional Coder-Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H); or Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P).
