The engineering technician intern performs semi-skilled technical duties in the sampling, testing, and/or inspection of materials used in highway construction and maintenance projects; responsibilities are performed on location throughout the state and/or at the Central Laboratory. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.
- Performs splitting and testing of aggregates for gradation and quality; checks quality of aggregates by determining percentages of deleterious material.
- Performs laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, bituminous mixtures, new products, or general materials; utilizes computers, electronic systems, and testing equipment for data entry, data collection, analysis, and preparation of laboratory testing reports.
- Performs calculations, reports test results, notifies supervisor of deviations from standards, and maintains records of testing activities.
- Performs duties outlined in the quality systems manuals, including completing competency exam evaluations, verifying results, demonstrating test procedures, and calibrating equipment; assists in quality control/quality assurance reference testing.
- Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Must be enrolled in a relevant associate’s or bachelor’s degree program.
- Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
- Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
- This is a wage, non-benefits eligible position, working no more than 1,039 hours per year.
- The typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
