Essential Functions
- Teaches subject matter appropriate to educational background and certification.
- Develops, implements and evaluates the individual educational plan for each student.
- Plans and outlines class work within prescribed limits; assembles and prepares learning materials for special study.
- Keeps scholastic and attendance records.
- Gives individual instruction and encouragement as needed.
- May operate as part of a teaching team. May assist in teacher training of peers and student teachers/interns. Participates in conferences/meetings with parents.
- Confers with building Supervisor and/or parents regarding students' needs, progress and/or abilities.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Considerable knowledge of modern practices, techniques and methods of teaching, particularly as this applies to the area of education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
- Ability to use constructive behavior management in a classroom.
- Ability to assess needs of students and develop program accordingly.
- Ability to work effectively with students.
- Ability to communicate effectively through writing, reading and/or speech and sign language.
- Ability to make accurate observations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Must meet the required American Sign Language competency level of Advanced.
- Missouri State Substitute Teacher’s Certificate, or ability to meet requirements to obtain certificate by documenting a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Missouri State Teachers’ Certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire
- This position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.
