Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (FWP) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated leader to serve as Chief of Staff. This position will play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing FWP's mission of conserving and protecting Montana's diverse fish, wildlife, and parks resources. This unique opportunity will help lead the stewardship of Montana's natural heritage and make a positive impact on the state's environment. The Chief of Staff is a senior leadership role within FWP, reporting directly to the Director. This position involves a broad range of responsibilities, including strategic planning, policy development, and overseeing various programs and initiatives. The Chief of Staff will work closely with the Director and other senior leaders to ensure the efficient and effective operation of FWP.
This position will work at FWP headquarters in Helena, the capital city of Montana. Helena has a large professional population. It is central to many outdoor recreation opportunities, including a community trail system offering hiking, mountain biking and trail running. Helena is also centrally located to many of Montana’s famous outdoor opportunities including many state parks, Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks, along with the nearby Bob Marshal Wilderness Area. Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement strategic plans and policies.
- Provide guidance and oversight to departmental staff and programs.
- Act as a liaison between the Director, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, budgets, and other documents for internal and external use.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments related to fish, wildlife, and parks.
- Foster collaboration with partner organizations and agencies.
- Contribute to the development and execution of outreach and communication strategies.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Significant high-level leadership experience (3 years) in natural resource management, conservation, business/public administration or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience (10years).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Montana's fish, wildlife, and parks issues and policies is a plus
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Special Information:
Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary.
