Office Location & Schedule: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.
Pay Rate: $83,352.51/year
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
- Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective accounting procedures following directives of the Commissioner of Education, in compliance with Nebraska’s State Accounting Manual.
- Plans, organizes, and directs activities of accounting systems, general ledger accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable and receivable, and state and federal reporting.
- Establishes, reviews, and implements policies, procedures, and best practices for financial reporting systems based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and state and federal regulations.
- Manages the payroll for the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), including review, certification, and administration within the system.
- Collaborates with and advises agency leadership on changes to NDE policies related to agency-wide accounting procedures.
- Works collaboratively to complete annual and biennial budgets, and ensures the budget reflects major projects and initiatives, operational requirements, and changes in state and/or federal regulations.
- Provides leadership in the hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff. Conducts performance management activities including establishing annual goals related to the strategic plan, holding check-in meetings to discuss goal progress, and completing performance appraisals. Facilitates a continuous learning environment by promoting professional development to ensure all employees have the opportunity and skills to be efficient and effective in meeting the goals of the agency. Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.
Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 90% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 10% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as schools, ESUs, meetings and conferences. There is no expected overnight travel.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and\or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field, pre-audit certification.
