Job Description:
JOB DUTIES:
Head Lifeguard (Chadron State Park, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Fort Robinson State Park, Louisville SRA, Niobrara State Park, Platte River State Park, and Ponca State Park):
- Under limited supervision, oversee the designated aquatic facility operations and supervise lifeguard team members.
- Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of the pool area and bathhouse facilities.
- Assisting in general maintenance and cleaning of equipment used at the designated aquatic facility
- Perform water testing and manage chemical levels for pool maintenance.
- Completing reports as needed
- Enforce safety regulations and lead emergency responses promptly under limited supervision.
- Assisting in conducting trainings and orientations
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least six months experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction, hospitality, historical, retail or customer service setting, agricultural setting, or related coursework/training.
Preferred Qualifications: The ability to complete upon hire State of Nebraska Pool Operator training or obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate or equivalent, and willingness to complete a Lifeguard Management Course.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: Candidates must demonstrate a willingness and ability to have successfully completed and or recertify their lifeguard certification, Certified Pool Operator certification or equivalent depending on the needs of the facility. Familiarity with the role and responsibilities of a lifeguard in maintaining a safe aquatic environment. A general awareness of workplace safety practices and procedures. A willingness to complete a lifeguard management course.
A willingness to receive additional trainings as requested for the designated facility.
Skill in: Leading staff; communicating clearly with persons from a variety of backgrounds.
Ability to: meet and deal effectively with the public; understand and follow instructions; plan, assign and coordinate the work of others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and administrative personnel; recognize safety hazards and take steps to correct the situation; apply agency policies pertinent to assigned work and direction of assigned crews; train assigned employees; plan, explain, and direct work assignments of a small group of employees engaged in the same work; resolve crew problems; learn and apply State laws and regulations pertaining to park operations; multi-task and prioritize responsibilities; bend, stoop, climb, reach frequently; work outdoors; remain standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
