The primary area of assessment will be compliance with FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy. In this position, you will be a subject matter expert on CJIS Security Policy, providing guidance to partner law enforcement agencies for a mission-critical system that provides vital, real-time information.

This role places you at the intersection of engaging IT security practices with applying them in a law enforcement setting. This career offers a fulfilling opportunity to contribute directly to public safety. If you are passionate about IT security, and making a meaningful impact, this could be your next career move.

Job Duties:
  • Collaborate with the FBI and partner law enforcement agencies on CJIS Security Policy topics and incident reporting.
  • Conduct assessments and monitor the CJIS Security compliance of partner agencies, identifying areas for improvement and supporting their security improvements.
  • Perform system administration tasks to support system interfaces, user accounts, and system configurations.
  • Provide guidance and education to partner agencies on CJIS Security Policy compliance, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain security controls, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support for critical systems.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends in information security, law enforcement technology, and best practices.
  • Consult on policies, procedures, and training programs to enhance security awareness within the agency and partner agencies.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience. Two years of related technical and business experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. OR Post high school coursework in computer science and four years of related technical and business experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate combines technical competence with interpersonal skills. They are approachable, clear in communication and comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This person knows how to translate advanced security concepts into understandable guidance. The ideal candidate is also familiar with how to assess for compliance to a federal, state, or industry-specific standard. The applicant will have a strong grasp of IT infrastructure, user access management, and endpoint protection, and can apply security best practices to support criminal justice and public safety systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • IT security best practices, identity and access management, and endpoint protection.
  • Audit processes, conducting compliance assessments, including identifying gaps, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Security frameworks such as NIST, CJIS, or similar standards and their application to system administration and compliance.
  • Risk management concepts and the ability to interpret and apply security policies and audit requirements.
  • Best practices for system configuration and compliance, with a focus on ensuring secure handling of sensitive data.
Skill in:
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues with system and services in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Clear and effective communication of complex technical or security information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to ensure ongoing compliance.

Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues, end users, and partner agencies, fostering strong working relationships through a friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Explain technical or compliance topics in plain language and support users with patience and empathy.
  • Respond to system incidents or critical issues during business or after-hours.
