DUTIES
- Facilitate cognitive-behavioral and other evidence-based programming in a classroom setting within one or more of NDCS' nine facilities statewide.
- Facilitate classes independently and co-facilitate with other teammates and incarcerated peer facilitators.
- Create participant rosters using the data management system and established priorities; enter and track data relative to program participation, completion, etc.
- Work with facility teammates to identify and utilize program space and equipment.
- Prepare lessons consistent with curriculum.
- Review written work by incarcerated individuals and provide written feedback.
- Assist with community partner programming at facilities.
- Work closely with program coordinators and other facilitators in all facilities.
- Complete necessary, required training/certifications as needed to deliver programming.
- Work hours will depend upon the need of the facility and may require some evening and weekend hours.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field OR two years of experience working with persons referred through the legal system. Must be at least 18 years of age. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish and English. Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services, education, communication, or related field. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to adapt to various situations. Experience teaching/facilitating or otherwise working with adult learners in a classroom/group environment, including diverse students. Experience providing instruction and/or facilitating programs to justice-involved individuals. Experience as a trained/certified facilitator for 5 Key programs, or other evidence-based programming. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Other: Transcripts required prior to appointment. Must have a valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: a medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
