Job Description:
Job Duties:
- Receive and log samples, prepare samples for testing, record test results, maintain laboratory and testing equipment, and clean laboratory, equipment, and vehicles.
- Perform simple math functions to determine test results.
- Perform tests on soils such as liquid limit, plastic limit, moisture density and similar routine tests.
- Perform tests on aggregate such as wash tests, sieve analysis and similar routine tests.
- Assist with field testing and sampling along with sample or equipment delivery when necessary.
- Safely move, lift, load, and unload various materials with or without assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: High school education or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Laboratory testing experience.
- Experience performing research, results recording, and data entry.
Other:
- Must have a valid driver's license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
- Availability for over-night and out-of-town travel.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of highway construction materials and procedures.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics relating to the material tests used in the Department including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to read and follow detailed test procedures, understand instructions, and apply them to practical work situations.
- Ability to perform tasks repeatedly while maintaining integrity of results.
- Must be able to safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various objects, equipment, materials and supplies, with or without assistance.
