The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This recruitment will be used to underfill the Environmental Scientist 3 position. This position is with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Water Pollution Control (BWPC) within the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Branch located in the Reno office. This position is responsible for conducting inspections at facilities with UIC and On-site Sewage Disposal (OSDS) permits and ensuring compliance with statutes, regulations, and permits. The position will review plans and reports, write inspection reports, write technical and compliance letters, and track compliance with regulatory requirements. Additional duties may include writing violations and non-compliance notices, helping write and review permits, corresponding with permittees, contractors, and developers, and use of BWPC and EPA online databases. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical environmental experience which involved assisting in environmental program research and planning; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
