The Position
GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, supporting and administering all aspects of a department's and/or division's enterprise geographic information system.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The position serves as a lead to staff and/or project lead, including assigning and monitoring work and providing direction. May serve in the supervisor's absence. This position is responsible for maintaining and upgrading Enterprise GIS software, geodatabases, services, and web applications for the divisions and organization. The position will provide overall management and technical assistance to users of GIS. Assist with troubleshooting and/or process identification and definition. Analyze system issues and take corrective action. Maintains and expands all resources, including data software and hardware, so that users can efficiently and effectively use their GIS-based applications; coordinates GIS efforts to optimize the utility and value of all digital data equipment and other required resources; documents and distributes information about GIS data resources to users. Develop and maintain the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) which may include any of the following: maintenance of the statewide road network, calibrated linear referencing methods and associated GIS data layers, and /or maintenance of the Enterprise GIS servers, databases, associated data layers, web maps and other GIS data products as needed. This position is also the supervisor of the GIS team and responsible for supervising professional and technical staff to include hiring, training, discipline, timesheet approval, leave approval, work assignments and performance evaluations.

To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geographic information systems, geography, cartography, computer information systems, or a closely related field and three years of professional GIS experience which included GIS/GPS data collection, analysis and validation; GIS software application development; and/or cartographic design. One year of this experience must have also included one or more of the following: spatial database development and management, GIS application development, and/or GIS application server administration; OR an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in geographic information systems, geography, cartography, computer information systems, or a closely related field and four years of professional GIS experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and five years of professional GIS experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a GIS Analyst II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Certification as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) from the GIS Certification Institute is equivalent to one year of work experience. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
