Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies within District 3, Elko. Positions are on different crews and work various shifts. Incumbent is responsible for performing routine maintenance duties, including keeping pavement surface, shoulders, clear zones, and associated roadways in good repair; winter maintenance, including snowplow operation and anti-icing activities, summer betterment projects, and assistance in emergency operations. The hours for these positions are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hours shifts. These positions may require working in inclement weather. This is an underfill for a Highway Maintenance Worker 3. **INCUMBENT MAY PROGRESS TO THE NEXT LEVEL AFTER MEETING THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE, AND WITH APPROVAL OF THE APPOINTING AUTHORITY.**

To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education; OR one year of general work and/or volunteer experience; OR one year of experience as a Highway Construction Aid in Nevada State service. Special Notes Incumbents at the Highway Maintenance Worker I may progress to the Highway Maintenance Worker II upon obtainment of a valid State of Nevada Commercial Driver's License and at the recommendation of the appointing authority. In order to meet the needs of specialized disciplines within the highway maintenance field, certified equipment proficiency or specialized skills may be required for Highway Maintenance Worker III's and IV's and will be identified at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements A Class A commercial driver's license, including appropriate endorsements will be required within six months of appointment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of application and as a condition of continued employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. This position may require working alternate shifts and outside of traditional business hours. The hours for this position are subject to change depending on the needs of the appointing authority and may be five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
