The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (NDCNR), protects, manages, and enhances the State's resources to provide the highest quality of life for Nevada's citizens and visitors. The NDCNR with over 900 employees consists of the Director's Office and the following divisions and programs: Environmental Protection, Forestry, State Lands, State Parks, Water Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Heritage, State Historic Preservation Office, Off-Highway Vehicles, Sagebrush Ecosystem, and the Conservation Districts Program. The Department also provides support staff to the Nevada Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and has responsibility for numerous Boards, Commissions, and Councils. The Department has locations and/or provides program services in every community of the State. This position is located in Carson City and will serve as the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office's (SHPO) Programs Supervisor. The incumbent will supervise Historic Preservation Specialist I and II positions by assigning and reviewing work and setting priorities. This position will manage the following SHPO program areas on behalf of the Administrator: National Register of Historic Places, Nevada State Register of Historic Places, Certified Local Governments, Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) Subgrants, Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation (CCCHP) grant program, and the SHPO's active covenants. The position will coordinate with staff and the public to ensure prompt and efficient review of proposed nominations, federal and state funded historic preservation grants, and covenants. The incumbent will assist the Administrator to prepare elements of the State's preservation plan. To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited university in history, architectural history, historic preservation, art history, archaeology, anthropology, cultural geography or related field and two years of professional experience performing historic preservation work in archaeology, architectural history, history, or planning; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in history, architectural history, historic preservation, art history, archaeology, anthropology, cultural geography or closely related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Historic Preservation Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY: Per 36CFR61 positions in the Architectural History discipline require a Master's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related field, with course work in American architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related field; or a bachelor's degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field plus one of the following: (1) at least 2 years of full-time experience in research, writing or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution, historical organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or (2) substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history. These positions will be identified at the time of recruitment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
