Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
Under administrative direction, the Resident Engineer performs professional engineering work by coordinating, planning, directing, and managing activities for the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). In this position, the incumbent functions as a construction project manager for Crew 905 and is responsible for maintaining and managing the construction field office and construction field laboratory, including facilities testing, and supervision of testing and inspecting crew members. Manages and delivers regionally significant projects using traditional (Design-Bid-Build) and innovative (Design-Build, Design-Build-Finance, Construction Manager at Risk) project delivery methods; performs professional engineering work in coordinating, planning, directing, and managing activities as a Resident Engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). The incumbent functions as a personnel manager who trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors. This position may work in an office setting or outside in urban environments and rural environments in a wide range of temperatures and climates. To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and two years of experience performing professional engineering work in a supervisory or responsible project charge capacity; OR one year of experience as a Supervisor, Professional Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and two years of experience as a Staff II or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes A person that is a licensed Professional Engineer in another state must become licensed as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months of appointment as a condition of continuing employment. As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of employment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
