What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Clerk (2025) - Supreme Court/Carson City position at STATE OF NEVADA-JUDICIAL BRANCH?
The Nevada Supreme Court is currently accepting applications for law clerkships starting in Summer/Fall 2025. As a law clerk, you'll work directly with a Justice, assisting in processing appeals and writ petitions. Your tasks will include legal research, drafting bench memos, preparing orders and opinions, and reviewing documents produced in chambers.
Clerkships are available for either one or two years, depending on the preference of the Justice. Positions are based in Carson City, offering a chance to experience Nevada's legal landscape firsthand.
The 2025 Supreme Court clerkships for Las Vegas have now been filled. Applications are only being accepted for Carson City.
Please note that the role may require occasional holiday, night, and weekend work, as well as periodic out-of-town travel.

Examples of Essential Duties:
- Review cases assigned to chambers
- Conduct the necessary legal research in a thorough and meticulous manner
- Prepare concise, well organized bench memos and orders
- Handle original petitions and petitions for rehearing
- Edit own work product and that of co-clerks
- Review all current decisions published by this court.
- Keep abreast of decisions from other courts that may be applicable to pending Nevada cases
- Carefully proofread orders and opinions
- Attend oral arguments
Qualifications:
Must have graduated with a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school by the start of the clerkship, preferably in the top 20%.
Law review or other journal experience is desirable.
Law clerks must possess exceptional legal research and writing abilities, must be flexible, and must be motivated to work independently to produce high quality work in a fast-paced appellate environment.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, transcripts, writing sample, and list of three references.
