The Position
Compliance Investigators perform investigations regarding violations of federal and/or State laws or regulations pertaining to a specific State program or regulatory area such as public assistance, real estate, insurance, employment discrimination or sexual harassment. The investigative process is initiated following a formal complaint or suspected violation utilizing standard investigative techniques. Incumbents are not sworn peace officers, and enforcement actions are limited to the specific program or regulatory area and involve informal resolution and/or recommendations for administrative sanctions or penalties which are imposed by a higher authority.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Compliance Investigator II position is located in the Las Vegas office of the Nevada Division of Insurance and is part of the Consumer Services unit. Following the submission of a formal consumer complaint, this position performs investigations utilizing standard investigative techniques into possible violations of the Nevada state insurance laws pertaining to Title 57 and/or the regulations of the Nevada Administrative Code and/or Federal Laws. This position reviews complaints to assess whether the licensed entity has complied with the Insurance Code. In that process, the investigator facilitates communications between the company and the consumer to coordinate a possible resolution of the complaint on an informal basis by addressing the evidence gathered, the facts of the case with the contending parties, and the steps required to regain compliance and/or resolution of the complaint.
The position develops leads and facts pertaining to the case to substantiate all possible violations. The position prepares and writes investigative reports identifying possible violations to Title 57. The position maintains case files in chronological order regarding investigative steps taken, the documentation of all phone calls and meeting logs, and the documentation of all contact made with the complainant, respondent, witnesses, and other sources. Information from case file to be utilized and developed into final case report for resolution, recommendation, and supervisory review.
