The Position
Substance Abuse Counselors perform professional duties in areas of screening, assessment, case management, education, and treatment of clients and perform related administrative duties and recordkeeping in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Northern Nevada Correctional Center is now hiring for a Substance Abuse Counselor 2 in Carson City. The Substance Abuse Counselor 2 will provide direct clinical work for incarcerated adults at the Correctional Center. Services at the facility include intakes/assessments, development of individualized treatment plans, group facilitation, individual counseling, and oversight of therapeutic community activities. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors.
Special Notes
Per NAC 641C.280 Substance Abuse Counselors who supervise a certified intern must have Certification as a Supervisor of Alcohol and Drug Interns by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors. Substance Abuse Counselor III positions that supervise Substance Abuse Counselor I positions must have this certification at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Substance Abuse Counselor I's - certification as an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor Intern from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Licensure as a Certified Counselor or Licensed Counselor from the Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors is required at the time of application and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
