The Position
Wildlife Area Technicians may be assigned to work at a wildlife management area, on a water development crew or as a regional utility person. Typical duties involve the maintenance of wildlife habitat by operating light and heavy equipment, controlling water levels in wetland areas, managing vegetation and related activities intended to develop and enhance an environment which will support the State's wildlife species.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Under the supervision of the Biologist 3, this position is a member of a two-person Wildlife Water Development crew in Southern Nevada that performs a wide range of necessary water development related inspections, maintenance, repair, and construction duties to expand usable habitats and improve populations of game and non-game wildlife by means of water development. The position will be responsible to operate and maintain vehicles, light and heavy equipment, and various hand and power tools to assure the proper operation and safety on all projects. Incumbents are also responsible for managing an extensive materials inventory and planning/executing materials purchasing for the build season. This position interacts with many volunteer groups that are assisting the crew on water development construction and maintenance projects. This position also participates in other programs as needed to achieve assigned habitat program objectives the meet the mission of the Nevada Department of Wildlife. Duties may require this position to work for extended periods in locations that are a significant distance from the home base, inclusive of camping out in remote areas. Position is being recruited at three levels, Wildlife Area Technician 1, Wildlife Area Technician 2, and Wildlife Area Technician 3. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in maintenance, farming or construction work; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 284.4006, positions in this series have been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in these positions must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Positions in this series are required to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement and air brake certification within six months of appointment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
