The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy for an Automotive Service Technician.
SUMMARY: To perform skilled mechanical automotive repair and maintenance work on Department of Transportation fleet equipment.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year of experience performing automotive service functions in the automotive service field, preferably certified as a motor vehicle inspector by the Department of Safety. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one (1) year of required formal education.
License/Certification: Applicant must possess a valid driver's license. The applicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Shall provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic's tools thru 1" diameter and ½" drive. All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Replaces brake linings, starters, exhaust systems and other equipment components not requiring journeyman level skill and knowledge to meet workload requirements.
Performs annual Motor Vehicle Inspections to certify vehicle conforms to State Motor Vehicle requirements and is safe for highway operation.
Performs fleet maintenance such as lubrication, repairing tires, and inspecting brake linings to promote equipment longevity and identify mechanical problems.
Completes vehicle Repair Orders to document inspections, maintenance or repairs completed for future reference.
Performs "road repairs" as assigned, to augment 24 hours repair service policy.
Works with journeyman mechanics to remove engines, transmission and other equipment.
Cross-trains and assists in other sections within the Bureau including the warehouse and body shop.
