SUMMARY:
CIVIL ENGINEER I: To perform entry-level engineering duties related to traffic systems analyses for the Traffic Research group of the Bureau of Traffic.
CIVIL ENGINEER II: To perform basic engineering functions related to traffic systems analyses for the Traffic Research group of the Bureau of Traffic.
CIVIL ENGINEER III: To perform a variety of highly technical professional engineering duties related to traffic systems analyses and traffic flow theory for the Traffic Research group of the Bureau of Traffic.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
CIVIL ENGINEER I:
Education:Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.
Experience:No experience required.
OR
Education:Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.
Experience:Two years of post-graduate experience in engineering in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.
License/Certification:1. Must possess an Engineer-in-Training Certificate issued by the NH Office of Professional Licensure and Certification. (Bachelor's degree applicants not possessing an E.I.T. Certificate may be hired at a one-salary grade reduction.)
CIVIL ENGINEER II:
Education:Master's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Processes, analyzes and reports traffic data required for the NHDOT Traffic Monitoring Program, including, but not limited to, volume data, class data, and weigh-in-motion data.
Reviews routine traffic impact statements prepared by consulting engineers to evaluate traffic-related impacts of small scale private developments on state maintainedhighways.
Assists in the review of the traffic portions of environmental impact statements for NHDOT projects.
Analyzes traffic data and prepares traffic forecasts for highway design projects and intersection improvements.
Provides in-house support for GIS applications with regard to Traffic Research group functions.
CIVIL ENGINEER II :

CIVIL ENGINEER III :
Investigates, analyzes, designs and prepares plans for traffic signals, pavement markings and signing for construction projects and operational activities.
Investigates, analyzes, and makes recommendations for safety improvements for highways and intersections.
Compiles and analyzes traffic data, accident data and speed studies. Drafts engineering recommendations.
Provides traffic engineering assistance and support to contract administrators, project managers and others concerning construction and maintenance activities for signing, pavement markings, and traffic signals. Assists in drafting scope of work, estimates costs of projects and provides anticipated work schedules.
Represents the Bureau of Traffic, as required, in support of policies, guidelines and administrative directives associated with traffic engineering and operational issues with town, city and state officials and others.
Understands, maintains, and updates the Bureau of Traffic’s engineering standards and specifications. Makes recommendations and assists in implementing changes of these standards statewide.
Assists in the formulation, coordination and operation of the traffic control plans for special events. Provides technical assistance in all areas of traffic safety, as directed.
Conducts field layout, assists in final inspections, and maintains engineering records and project files as necessary for all construction projects and maintenance activities.
Assists the Traffic Operations Engineer in the review and approval of consultant and developer engineering plans based on the Bureau of Traffic’s guidelines and Department’s policies. Makes recommendations on submissions of engineering plans, studies and cost estimates consistent with Departments policies. Reviews shop drawings and product submittals for recommendation of approval.
Directs, trains and supervises assigned staff to achieve specific engineering goals. Communicates and coordinates with individuals, organizations, and other Bureaus in all aspects of highway safety and traffic engineering.
