Why does the job exist?

The Fiscal Data Analyst position will focus on managing large sets of financial data and utilize advanced Excel platforms like Power Pivot, queries, Power BI and DAX to collect, clean, maintain, and analyze financial data from large and complex data sets and prepare data driven reports specific to divisional and agency needs.

How does it get done?

This position plays a critical role in managing and organizing the financial data for multiple funds and programs within the Department of Health. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all data fields are structured in a way that is both well organized and easily accessible, enabling accurate representation through advanced analytical tools such as Power Pivot, queries, Power BI and DAX. Key tasks include : Facilitate Knowledge Gathering : Gain business knowledge and processes through job shadowing, conversations with stakeholders, and participation in strategic meetings; Data Management and Integration : Efficiently organizing financial data, ensuring seamless integration across various systems, and maintaining consistency and accuracy. Data Modeling and Analysis : Developing and maintaining data models to analyze financial trends, patterns, and performance to support decision-making. Budget Projections and Forecasting : Working with financial data to

create and update budget forecasts monthly or as required to provide valuable insights to help inform future planning and resource allocation. Reporting and Visualization : Designing and generating detailed financial reports and visualizations that provide stakeholders with clear and actionable calculations. Collaboration and Communication : Working closely with various teams to ensure alignment on financial strategies and reporting requirements, and clearly communicating financial insights to leadership. Continuous Improvement : Identifying opportunities for process enhancements and driving continuous improvement to increase efficiency, accuracy, and the overall impact of financial reporting. By leveraging advanced data analysis tools, this position ensures that the Department's financial data is effectively managed and presented, enabling strategic decision-making and enhancing the overall financial performance of the department.

Who are the customers?

The New Mexico Department of Health includes : six (6) program areas, six (6) facilities and one (1) community program.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and skills with advanced analytical tools such as Power Pivot, queries, Power BI and DAX. Any required licenser, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and / or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

Office setting, exposure to visual / video display terminal (VDT, extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Use of state vehicle may be required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
