Public Health is a Division of the New Mexico Department of Health. The Southeast Region Public Health Division consists of 8 counties with 10 public health offices. Each office houses diverse staff members offering services addressing health disparities and promoting healthy behaviors to improve quality of life.
Why does the job exist?
The position provides care to clients to include family planning services, STDs, Breast and Cervical Cancer, Medication for Opiate Use Disorder in addition to other infectious diseases. This position provides much needed support to the nurse managers, public health nurses and clerical staff during clinic schedule.
How does it get done?
Providing direct care to clients through face-to-face appointments and at times telehealth. Also, through assessments and screening of clients for services and needs. Dispensing and filling medications for clients. Providing client education and counseling on health conditions. Travel is critical to perform clinical duties and outbreak investigations.

Minimum Qualification
Licensed by the New Mexico Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), must possess prescriptive authority and may require DEA registration in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Office setting, clinics, home visits as needed.
