Why does the job exist?
The Assistant Chief of Information provides supervision and direction to the information staff of the Information and Education Division. Information staff includes public information officers, editors, videoagrapher, webmaster and call center staff.
How does it get done?
The Assistant Chief of Information is responsible for the production and distribution of Department publications including, but not limited to, hunting and fishing rules and information books, New Mexico Wildlife magazine, annual report and informational print collateral. The assistant chief serves as the senior editor for all media communications including social media. The Assistant Chief will assist the division chief with planning, budget, marketing and other activities related to fulfilling the Department's mission.

The Assistant Chief of Information provides professional communication for internal and external customers including the news media.

Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is preformed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. .
