The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of the closing date.
Why does the job exist?
To ensure Child Care Home providers are in compliance with the applicable State and Federal Regulations in order to protect the Health, Safety and development of the children of New Mexico.
How does it get done?
The purpose of this position is to conduct surveys of child care home providers to determine compliance with applicable regulations, investigate complaints, incidents and conduct follow-up surveys. This position is to provide training and technical assistance to child care home providers in order to improve the quality of child care services in the state. Among their responsibilities, Child Care Specialists conduct home visits, investigate complaints/incidents and referrals to determine appropriate action timely, and plan for and participate in Administrative hearings across the state.
Who are the customers?
All licensed family child care homes and non-licensed child care homes in New Mexico that intend to participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program or the Child Care Assistance Programs and the children and families of NM.
Ideal Candidate
All licensed family child care homes and non-licensed child care homes in New Mexico that intend to participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program or the Child Care Assistance Programs and the children and families of NM.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience as a social or community coordinator and/or social worker assistant. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a current and valid Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is mainly performed through on-site visits at the child care provider's home. Additional work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and travel is required.
