The New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (NMDVR) seeks a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing Coordinator to facilitate vocational rehabilitation services for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health, and/or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.

- Assess individual client needs and develop customized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with vocational rehabilitation counselors. Provide expert guidance on the challenges faced by deaf and hard-of-hearing clients in employment settings. Coordinate and oversee the provision of auxiliary aids and services such as interpreters, captioning services, and assistive technology to enhance communication accessibility. Train and advise vocational rehabilitation staff on best practices for serving deaf and hard-of-hearing clients, including sensitivity training and awareness of cultural aspects. Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, educational institutions, and employers to create client placement and support opportunities. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation plans and services, adjusting strategies to meet client goals. Advocate for the rights and needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals within the community and workplace. Manage caseload documentation and reporting in accordance with state and federal regulations. Participate in workshops, seminars, and other professional development activities to stay current with advancements in the field.
