Why does the job exist?
The Disabled Veteran Outreach Program / Local Veteran Employment Representative works with other service providers to promote veterans as job seekers who have highly marketable skills and experience. The LVER is the intermediary between core and intensive services. Assist eligible veterans, eligible spouses and veteran populations designated as having significant barriers to employment with individualized career services and career planning/case management.
How does it get done?
Provide individualized career services such as individual or group counseling, comprehensive/specialized skill assessments, development of individual employment plan, short-term pre-vocational services, work experiences, basic readjustment services, and career planning/case management. Planning and participating in job and career fairs. Conduct employer outreach. In conjunction with employers, conducting job searches and workshops, and establishing job search groups. Coordinating with unions, apprenticeship programs and businesses or business organizations to promote and secure employment and training programs for veterans. Informing federal contractors of the process to recruit qualified veterans. Promoting credentialing and licensing opportunities for veterans. Coordinating and participating with other business outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in customer service, quality assurance, administrative support, human resources, recruitment and placement, processing personnel transactions, or eligibility determination in private or public sector and/or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Background check is required
Working Conditions
Office setting. Sitting for long periods of time viewing computer monitor. Repetitive hand movement. Standing, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs. Use of computer, copier and telephone. Travel may be required to include overnight stays.
