The Museum of New Mexico Press' mission is to produce high-quality publications that educate audiences around the globe about New Mexico's artistic and cultural heritage. We serve as support to the state's museums and historic sites as one of the most public faces of the work of the DCA.
Why does the job exist?
This role manages the editorial program of the MNMP in support of the director and authors.
How does it get done?
Plans, implements, and directs editorial schedules for 6-8 titles per year, including:
Solicits new book projects that meet the mission of the Museum of New Mexico Press and delegates work to a team of editors, proofreaders, indexers, and mapmakers.
Coordinates all editorial work to prepare books for publication including developmental and mechanical editing, proofreading, and research; works collaboratively with Art Manager, authors, photographers, curators, and others involved in publications.
Assembles and schedules seasonal list of books in consultation with marketing, design, and director; works in tandem with designers in the presentation of content in book form.
Advises director on range of publishing decisions from author contracts, co-publishing partnerships, publishing strategies, and other support as needed.
Our customers are New Mexicans and others interested in the examination of New Mexico's regional art, history, and culture. We also serve as the publication arm for the state museums, producing world-class publications on exhibits featured in our state institutions. Our customers are discerning, invested, and loyal, requiring a high degree of precision in the execution of our publishing program.

We also serve as the publication arm for the state museums, producing world-class publications on exhibits featured in our state institutions. Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience developing and editing books for general (trade) publications. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eleven (11) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Office setting, VDT, lots of sitting, travel, dealing with challenging clients, tight time schedules must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
