Why does the job exist?
The purpose of the position is to provide technical guidance on air quality regulations to small businesses and to evaluate their potential need for registration with the Department, or their need to obtain an air permit.
How does it get done?
Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and two (2) years of work experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

- Conduct technical assessments of businesses based on their processes and air emission levels.
- Determine applicable regulatory components of the Clean Air Act and New Mexico Administrative Code for the facility.
- Explain regulatory requirements and details to small businesses.
- Review National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requests for relevance to Clean Air Act components, as necessary.
