This position is in the Community and Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau of the New Mexico Department of Health¿s Center for Health Protection (CHP). The Community and Health Systems Epidemiology Bureau consists of the Health Systems Epidemiology program. the Community, Health Equity and Tribal Epidemiology Section, and the Geographic Information System Epidemiology program
Why does the job exist?
This position supports the NM Department of Health's efforts designing and implementing an All Payers Claims Database (APCD). This position will engage and build relationships to identify and prioritize use cases for an APCD as well as provide technical expertise and knowledge sharing to stakeholders throughout NM. This position will also perform evaluations of the APCD health system. This position designs, develops, and conducts epidemiological investigations and research utilizing the APCD.
How does it get done?
Collect, organize, analyze, visualize, and interpret public health, behavioral health, and public finance data to derive meaningful insights for key stakeholders. Utilize data profiling and data mining techniques to investigate issues relating to the structure, quality, trends, patterns, and relationships within data sets. Evaluate data sources, assets, and products to identify opportunities for data and information quality improvement. Maintain relationships and communications necessary to support APCD efforts, many of these efforts will be self-initiated but a communications plan with input from relevant APCD members will provide guidance as well.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds and some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
