This position supports the Program Support Division, Statewide Law Enforcement Support Division, New Mexico State Police (NMSP), Office of the Secretary, Office of Legal Affairs, Administrative Services Division, Information Technology, Law Enforcement Academy, Forensic Laboratory, the Law Enforcement Records Bureau and the State of New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
This position supports the Program Support Division, Statewide Law Enforcement Support Division, New Mexico State Police (NMSP), Office of the Secretary, Office of Legal Affairs, Administrative Services Division, Information Technology, Law Enforcement Academy, Forensic Laboratory, the Law Enforcement Records Bureau and the State of New Mexico.
Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required education.
Employment Requirements
Associates degree in any related field. Preferred experience in human resource operations; recruitment, selection, payroll, compensation and benefits administration, labor relations, investigations, HR related training experience and/or occupational analysis. Substitutions apply.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a fast-paced Law Enforcement office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of sitting and a high volume of data flow. Exposure to confidential information. Exposure of officers carrying weapons. Occasional overtime is required to meet statutory and critical deadlines. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Occasional local and in-state travel may be required.

- Receives calls and responds to requests for information, either by providing the necessary details or directing callers to the appropriate entity. Develops and implements both paper and electronic filing systems to enhance record management, specifically overseeing the personnel and position records management systems. This includes opening, closing, and transferring files, as well as managing both physical and virtual employee records. Additionally, oversees the review of personnel files by employees, managers, supervisors, and HR staff.
- Provides basic technical assistance on HR functions, including payroll and benefits transactions, for assigned divisions and facilities. Reviews compensation and position action paperwork for assigned programs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational guidelines.
- Manages recruitment documentation, including posting job openings, certifying candidates, and processing hire packets. Verifies and ensures the accuracy of supporting documentation for HR actions and communicates with assigned staff regarding any additional requirements. All activities are performed under the guidance of a more experienced HR professional.
- Maintains clear communication and takes a proactive approach to resolving a range of minor HR issues using agency policies, State Personnel Board Rules, and applicable state and federal statutes. May also analyze job roles to determine Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
