The Office of Superintendent of Insurance regulates all insurance companies doing business in the State of New Mexico. Its role is to enforce all New Mexico laws and regulations applicable to insurance companies doing business within the state for the protection of New Mexico residents utilizing insurance company products and services.

Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing product filings of life and health insurers authorized to transact the business of insurance in the state of New Mexico. The position performs technical review of life and health product filings to ensure compliance with all the New Mexico Insurance Code, New Mexico Administrative Code, National Association of Insurance Commissioner Model Acts and federal laws under the Affordable Care Act applicable to individual and small group major medical products.
How does it get done?
This position will perform technical review of life and health insurance contracts, as well as affiliated forms, subject to the jurisdiction of the Insurance Code and issued by insurance companies offering major medical and limited benefit plans, Medicare supplement plans, long term care, funeral plans, life insurance and annuities. The forms include, but are not limited to, insurance policies, certificates, endorsement, riders, applications and advertisements, assumption agreements, viatical statements and other miscellaneous forms issued for delivery to insureds or proposed insureds residing in New Mexico. This position requires the ability to comprehend and interpret state and federal law, and the ability to apply this understanding to technical reviews to ensure compliance. This position requires excellent verbal and writing skills. Written correspondence related to non-compliance must be executed with proficiency in technical writing

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's license, a current defensive driving course certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
