Why does the job exist?

The Trainer / Coach works with the Protective Services workforce to build up their professional knowledge and practice through training, coaching, systems development of materials and projects and liaison with community programs. They work with the workforce individually and as units to ensure that they have knowledge of best practices for best outcomes and are able to utilize them in their practice to fidelity of the Protective Services initiatives.

How does it get done?

Training (30%) Conduct training for Protective Services workforce specific to developing best practice approaches to the investigation, placement, permanency, youth transition and in-home services roles. Conducts regular training within new employee training, fidelity training on initiatives and other trainings that are responsive to regional concerns.

Coaching (30%) Conduct regular coaching sessions with regional field positions, develop skills of new workers to meet role specific requirements, provide unit coaching based on leadership identified needs, work with leadership to develop supervision skills and succession planning, coaching to maintain fidelity to PSD initiatives.

Systems Development or Improvement (30%) Work with regional leadership to build initiatives using community and PSD data to identify needs and solutions for meeting workforce needs. Organize regional system plans for improving practice. Work within existing work groups to develop solutions within the division. Support Training Foster Care Plus Families utilizing the Pressley Ridge Training curriculum. Help navigate the resource parent through the learning modules, on line system, and assist with recruitment efforts at the forefront, help navigate and answer questions about the licensing process, and assist with connecting them to their team in Protective Services.

Community Liaison (10%) Facilitate and mediate meetings with child abuse and neglect organizations, community-based organization and other community groups to build a network of support for field staff in PSD. Work with the organizations and groups to build training and development to improve services. support the training for all Resource foster parent and staff through out the State of New Mexico by coordinating and conducting training sessions with Resource Foster Parents and Placement Caseworkers. This includes Licensing and Certification pre-service training (READi) and Train the Trainer training to CYFD staff in order to increase the department's numbers of certified training staff from the field. This position will ensure each resource parent is on track with training requirements and will provide coaching or additional training supports throughout the year as recommended through case staffings and supervision. Must be able to work non traditional hours to include evenings and weekends and travel throughout the state to support Training.

Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrates ability to facilitate job skills simulation;
  • Working knowledge and experience in child welfare and juvenile justice systems;
  • Five (5) years experience in training and developing curriculum applying adult learning and facilitation of discovery learning;
  • Three (3) years experience supervising employees;
  • Experience with learning management systems, data analysis of evaluations, and e-learning design and development.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology, and / or Family Studies / Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work / case management experience, behavioral health, and / or health care. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

  • Employment Requirements

    Must possess a current and valid Driver's License. Pre-employment background investigation is required and conditional pending results.

    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in an office setting : late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.
