Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to direct and supervise a team of administrative staff in the Operations Unit and staff who implement the Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program and Operations Unit by supporting the day-to-day operations of the bureau including but not limited to fee collection, procurement, contract, and resource management. The operations team also provides administrative support to Bureau staff, including data entry and records management. The Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Unit administers and implements the certification program for practitioners of medical imaging and radiation therapy.
The Radiation and Chemical Advocacy Program is responsible for assisting the Department of Energy (DOE) or DOE subcontract employees who become ill as a result of past exposures to radioactive materials and toxic chemicals with their claims and providing technical assistance and advocacy for those whose claims have been denied or who have encountered obstacles with the claims process
How does it get done?
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage under sometimes stressful situations. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. In-state travel is up to 20% with optional out-of-state travel as well. The position requires public speaking, occasionally with stakeholders and the public

How does it get done?
- Develop and implement procedures to streamline Bureau operations
- Coordinate with other NMED Bureaus and divisions as well as external parties
- Ensure bureaus have the resources needed Applications, portals, databases and IT equipment needs assessments, vehicles etc
- Ensure that the Bureau meets its grant deliverables and reporting deadlines
- Manage and direct the Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program and the Radiation and Chemical Advocacy Program
- Recruit, train and maintain a team of well-trained, motivated, informed, and productive staff. --- Work with Administrative and Management Analysts supervisors to assure supplies, vehicles, equipment and furniture are appropriately procured, distributed, tracked, reported and disposed of properly
- Support the annual fee collection and reporting for all Radiation Control Bureau fee-based programs
- Coordinate with the Bureau Chief, Bureau Financial Manager, Section Chiefs, Division Deputy director and Division Financial Manager to assure that the needs of the Bureau are anticipated and funded
- Develop and manage contracts
- Oversee grant applications
- Meet all reporting requirements including all documentation required by each grant

- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
