The New Mexico Outdoor Recreation Division (ORD) is dedicated to fostering economic growth, enhancing outdoor access, and promoting environmental stewardship across the state.
As part of the Economic Development Department, ORD invests in infrastructure, grants, and programs that support outdoor recreation businesses, trail development throughout the state, and equitable access to outdoor experiences for New Mexico youth. This is achieved by collaborating with communities, stakeholders, and agencies, ORD aims to position New Mexico as a premier destination for outdoor recreation and sustainable economic development.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

This position exists to support and implement key programs that advance the division mission of fostering economic growth, enhancing outdoor access, and promoting environmental stewardship.
The Program Manager ensures the effective management and execution of critical initiatives, including the Outdoor Recreation Trails Grant program, which develops outdoor infrastructure; the Outdoor Equity Fund, which provides opportunities for youth from underserved communities to engage in outdoor recreation; and the Outdoor Business Accelerator program, which drives growth for outdoor recreation entrepreneurs. This role is essential to ensuring these programs deliver meaningful benefits to New Mexico communities, businesses, and natural resources.
How does it get done?
This position will:
1. Support the Director when needed to represent the division at events, conferences, or speaking engagements to promote ORD mission and initiatives.
2. Program administration for the Outdoor Recreation Trails Grant, including managing program budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure goals are met.
3. Monitor projects and provide technical assistance to recipients.
4. Support Outdoor Recreation Division sponsored events
5. Facilitate partnerships and collaborative initiatives to maximize program impact.
6. Track program metrics and prepare reports to evaluate effectiveness and impact.
7. Analyze data to identify opportunities for program improvement and alignment with broader ORD goals.
8. Participate in legislative promotion for funding for the division and related programs, analyze bills related to outdoor recreation.
9. Contribute to policy development and strategic planning for the division growth and alignment with statewide outdoor recreation goals.

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience in program administration or project management in areas related to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of office and field settings. The role involves standard office tasks such as program administration, data analysis, and reporting, as well as travel across the state to meet with stakeholders, grant recipients, and various communities. Fieldwork includes attending events, conducting site visits, and supporting projects and programs funded by the division.
