Why does the job exist?
To ensure daily operation of Elephant Butte Lake State Park are being maintained, ensure revenue collection, facility are cleaned and maintained as well as grounds and roadways. To insure the visiting public have a safe recreation experience. Cleaning and maintaining all park facilities, completing weekly, monthly inspections on equipment, completing weekly, monthly,and quarterly reports, maintain drinking water system and providing interpretive programs for park visitors.
How does it get done?
Clean and maintain all park facilities/grounds to the Division Standards of Care. Operate hand tools, power tools small and heavy equipment to complete daily park tasks. Conduct weekly/monthly inspections on facilities and equipment, and submit quarterly reports. Operate and maintain the drinking water system.
Who are the customers?
Internal and external customers, visitors throughout the state of New Mexico and surrounding states who are campers, hikers, and boaters that come to visit the park for a variety of reasons. Local community businesses in surrounding areas of the park.
Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of equivalent experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
All applicants for this position must be licensed in accordance with 66-5-59 NMSA 1978, as applicable or eligible for licensure in accordance with provisions 66-5-60 NMSA 1987. Applicants must become a licensed Commercial driver (CDL-B) within one (1) year of hire. You must include your license or certificate number in the ¿license¿ section of the application form.
All applicants for this position must be certified in accordance with 61-33-1 NMSA 1978 (Utility Operators Certification). Applicants must obtain a New Mexico Water Level 1 certification within two (2) years from hire.
This position works outdoors 70% of the time and is exposed to machinery, adverse weather conditions, and some travel. This position is also administrative. Physical requirements include: sitting, walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, reaching, repeated hand/arm/finger motion, climbing, driving, typing, manual and finger dexterity, lifting up to 75 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 90 pounds, carrying up to 75 pounds. The use of various hand and power tools is required on occasion. Requires working inside and outside, occasionally in adverse weather conditions, extreme cold or heat, for extended periods of time. Due to the nature of park work, there is a risk of injury, animal or insect bites, and exposure to infection, dust, allergens, chemicals and petroleum product. Shift work is required on weekends, holidays and during events held at the park or at another site. Emergency situations may arise requiring extended hours of work, or return to work after normal hours. Sitting at a desk or computer workstation is essential. Must be willing to accept assignment/transfer to another geographic location.
