Why does the job exist?
This position ensures all safety aspects of the intrastate transport of natural gas and hazardous liquids by pipeline and pipeline facilities with a goal of ultimate safety and responsibility for both interstate and intrastate facilities and become the subject matter expert for interpreting federal regulations.
The main purpose of this position is to conduct compliance inspections of intrastate pipeline operators.
How does it get done?
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education.
Working Conditions
Hybrid Office/Home setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display (VDT) and extensive personal computer and cell phone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Occasional Statewide and out of State travel may be required.

Bargaining Unit Position

- Enforces federal and state pipeline safety regulations in order to provide for the safe operation of natural gas and hazardous liquid facilities;
- investigates intrastate pipeline incidents and accidents that take place in New Mexico;
- enforces the State Excavation Damage Prevention Law; and
- is responsible for licensing crude oil, natural gas, and oil and gas product pipelines.

- Conduct investigations of all natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline incidents and accidents
- Frequently travel in and out of state for inspections and training purposes
- Prepare technical reports for inspections/investigations conducted
- Maintain and update all pipeline safety dockets and inspection forms as required
- Track violations cited for corrective action until cases are closed
