The General Services Department (GSD) supports the operations of state government by providing essential services, including procurement, risk management, facilities management, transportation services, and printing services. The Risk Management Division (RMD) protects the state¿s assets by managing insurance programs, liability claims, and loss prevention initiatives. RMD provides risk assessment, coverage, and mitigation strategies to safeguard state employees, properties, and resources.

Why does the job exist?
The job is responsible for the compromise, adjust, settle, and deny liability claims filed against the state while maintaining the integrity of the public liability fund and to efficiently administer all property claims with the least amount of disruption to the state while maintaining the integrity of the state's property fund.
How does it get done?
This job is completed with thorough investigation, negotiation, and communication. Responsible for the fiscal management of each claim file assigned while maintaining the provisions of the NM Tort Claims Act.

State Agencies, Higher Education, General Public, Medical Facilities, and Local Public Bodies.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience in conducting claims investigations.
- Experience in adjusting Liability / Property Claims.
- Experience in participating in mediation.
- Experience with measuring comparative negligence.
- Experience with processing claims relative to the New Mexico Tort Claims Act.
- Experience negotiating claims.
- Possession or will obtain NM Claims Independent Adjuster License within 6 months of hire..
Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in any field and two (2) years of claims adjustment or insurance investigative experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Possession of a valid New Mexico Adjuster License within one-hundred-eighty (180) days from date of hire.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Valid New Mexico Claims Adjuster License is required within 6 months of hire date.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting at the Joseph Montoya Building with exposure to Visual / Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some travel may be required. Occasionally work extra hours, on weekends and holidays.
