Why does the job exist?
The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing operational tasks of assessing threats to security of institution,clients, and staff. This person will work to prevent introduction of contraband. Monitor policy and procedures to ensure consistency across facility to achieve safety and security. This person will monitor and assess the daily activities of clients to perform as a Shift Supervisor (as necessary) by providing group facilitation, mentoring, care, custody, safety and security of clients.
How does it get done?
- Assess Security Threats within the facility (ie. gang participation, narcotic searches, telemonitoring, etc.);
- Develop, implement, and ongoing plan of action for identifying threats to security of institution, clients, and / or staff;
- Provide weekly report to facility Management regarding activities, trends, behaviors, concerns, and training needs;
Conduct reviews and interviews with clients and staff to obtain information and intelligence regarding activities and security
Conduct searches of juveniles, living units / dorms and facility to determine presence of contraband and to secure it for
Supervise investigations conducted by subordinate staff to ensure facility / department policies and procedures are being
Ensure the safety and security of staff, clients, and the facility

Ideal Candidate
Experience in gang intervention programming. Experience in contraband searches, documentation, and investigations.
Experience in supervising, mentoring, training and developing junior staff. Experience in supervising, facilitating meetings, and
delegating work assignments. Experience in completing / conducting employee performance evaluations and advising
management on the development and evaluation of employees. Experience with PeopleSoft HCM (SHARE) and approving time
sheets. Experience working as a team leader. Experience working with at-risk juveniles in a secure environment. Experience in
crises intervention and / or special response situations.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in psychology, guidance and counseling, penology, sociology, social work, and / or criminology and two (2) years of experience in a correctional setting, military duty, classroom teaching or instructing in a rehabilitative environment, supervising planned recreational activities, or active participation in community action programs, or for Correctional Officer Specialist positions, relevant work experience as it relates to the purpose of the position. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements
Completion of the hiring process is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment screening process. This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and / or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Pre-employment criminal background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Potential risk from juvenile actions; this job could require running, lifting and possible physical intervention. Incumbents must be willing to accept changes in geographic assignment and be willing to work shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends and call back for emergencies. Incumbents must have a telephone and be willing to give the phone number to the supervisor. Some statewide travel may be required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
