The Boards and Commissions Division oversees administration of 28 professional and occupational licensing boards and commissions and approximately 100,000 individual licenses ranging from dentists and social workers to real estate brokers and cosmetologists. This position is located within the Division's Compliance Team, based out of the Department's Albuquerque office.
Each board and commission has its own set of rules and its own licensing requirements. The Governor of New Mexico appoints members to boards and commissions who work closely with the Superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department to protect consumer rights while promoting good business practices, safety and economic growth.
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date
Why does the job exist?
This position conducts inspections and investigations for various boards and commissions when their respective laws authorize inspection authority. Inspections are conducted to ensure establishments and individuals are in compliance with licensing, health and safety requirements as determined by each practice act and rules.
How does it get done?
Key Job assignments include conducting inspections and investigations in accordance with board, division and agency policies and procedures and the boards' practice acts and rules; prepares narratives, reports, inspections forms and complaints that are composed clearly and are thorough, objective and articulate facts; presents reports to include inspection and investigative findings and recommendations to committees and boards; and provide witness testimonial during disciplinary hearings.
Who are the customers?
Inspectors conduct inspections on behalf of multiple professional licensing boards. Establishments are defined as a location where regulated services are provided to the public. Inspectors ensure that establishment and individual practitioners throughout the state of New Mexico are in compliance with licensing, sanitation and safety standards.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in investigations, regulations, policy, statutory and or contract compliance; must have effective written and verbal communication skills; experience handling difficult people or situations with diplomacy to achieve results tactfully, professionally and successfully; experience preparing written clear and concise inspection reports, investigation reports and complaints; have experience reading, understanding and applying statutes and rules; have the ability to disseminate accurate information to others; be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as troubleshooting equipment when out in the field. Must be able to identify issues, problem solve and work independently.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and / or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and pass a pre-employment background check.
Working Conditions
Minimal office setting, exposure to Visual / Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer, tablet and telephone usage; and extensive field work with extended periods of sitting and driving. Staff hired for this position must properly handle electronic equipment with care. Staff hired for this position must also be able to lift 25 lbs and must be able to travel for overnights or multiple overnights throughout New Mexico.
