The DOH Emergency Medical Systems Bureau has statutory authority to oversee and regulate the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services (EMS), trauma and stroke/heart attack systems. Part of this statutory and regulatory responsibility includes the collection of EMS, Trauma, and Stroke/Heart Attack data, which is required under multiple statues and rules and to every extent possible, facilitate the communication and analysis of information between the department, acute care hospitals, EMS and other care providers.
Why does the job exist?
This position will provide leadership and facilitation for the Stroke and S-T Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) program, encouraging hospital participation in the respective registry and accreditation processes, growing the stroke and STEMI heart attack EMS and hospital treatment system, and improving the system of care for the affected patients.
How does it get done?
The Stroke/STEMI coordinator will be working with all facilities and EMS Services within the State of New Mexico, encouraging the facilities to become Stroke/STEMI certified. Holding regional and statewide meetings to ascertain the needs of said areas. Promoting communication throughout the states facilities. Utilizing the regulations for Stroke/STEMI to assist and inform facilities as to what is required to be accomplished to become certified. And what data to submit to the State.
Who are the customers?
The Stroke/STEMI program works to assist the EMS services and facilities to implement and sustain the infrastructure that assures that all residents of New Mexico will have access to current and capable Stroke/STEMI care at the appropriate facilities.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Frequent in-state and occasional out-of-state travel with the potential for overnight stay is required.
