The New Mexico Forestry Division retains lead responsibility for wildland fire management on all non-federal, non-tribal, and non-municipal lands, maintaining fire suppression capacities and emphasizing public and firefighters¿ safety. The Forestry Division promotes healthy, sustainable forests and watersheds in New Mexico for the benefit of current and future generations.
Why does the job exist?
The purpose of the Data Analyst III plays a critical role in supporting the operational efficiency of wildland fire management by overseeing the EMNRD Forestry Division reporting database systems and providing reliable data analysis and fostering communication among all EMNRD Forestry Division and wildland fire cooperators. The position is to be responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and transparency of all collected data across wildland fire data systems for approximately 500 wildfire incidents. The position will oversee the collection of wildland fire data for the Division and maintain, analyze, audit, report, and ensure accuracy of a multiple array of wildland fire data systems to ensure timely and accurate data entry by 6 district offices, 3 wildland fire crews, and approximately 150 wildland fire cooperators, to ensure that data collection is updated timely, accurately, and archived for transparency. This role involves the efficient collection, review, analysis, and maintenance of data related to wildland fire incidents, to include fire notifications, incident location, administration section (document incident management teams, delegation of authorities and participating entities), incident details, ownership, fuel group, suppression costs, and communication / dispatch logs.
How does it get done?
1. Main point of contact for wildland fire databases issues to include Fire Management System,
Fire Business System, Inform, IRWIN, Enterra, Eisuite
2. Review incident notifications for approximately 500 yearly incidents to ensure accuracy of wildland
fire database systems for initial tracking.
3. Monitor and validate wildland fire information entered by district offices, ensuring accurate
documentation of fire incidents and reporting in the wildland fire database systems.
4. Contact district for discrepancies in incident dispatch logs and wildland fire databases to
ensure all resources and resource information is entered accurately into wildland fire databases.
5. Work with districts to ensure integrity data systems to include but not limited to, ownership,
mapping, acreage for resource orders is entered timely and accurately after control date.
6. Collect federal daily cost reports and provide timely updates to district offices during high fire
activity seasons, facilitating effective decision-making and resource allocation.
7. Assist with monitoring and managing EMNRD fire billings emails and correspondence into
incident documentation files8. Collect zone dispatch logs all resources are entered into the fire database systems.
9. Run dispatch modules and cooperator dashboards reports and reconcile with incident dispatch
log to ensure all resources are captured in wildland fire databases to ensure that all systems
reflect the most current information.
10. Run incident report to reconcile fire data to include agency and unit identifier, no less than quarterly.
11. Run incident liability report to review accuracy of data no less than quarterly.
Who are the customers?
Primary customers are Division staff including the Resource Protection Bureau, 6 district offices, 3 wildland fire crews, and approximately 150 wildland fire cooperators, other state land management agencies.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following :
- database system management
- demonstrate proficient and comprehensive knowledge to collect, clean, maintain, and analyze data from large
and complex data sets
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with seven (7) years of experience directly related to position at time of posting or related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and / or direct experience in this occupation totaling eleven (11) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must maintain and possess a current New Mexico Driver¿s License
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual / Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Occasional day / overnight travel using a District vehicle. May be required to work irregular or extended hours including weekends and holidays during periods of emergency or wildland fire activity.
