The Health Care Technician II (HCT) serves as a role model and mentor to other HCT I’s throughout the facility and provides quality care to patients on 1 Oak. As an essential member of a multidisciplinary care team, the HCT II practices therapeutic principles when providing care to the patients they serve. A typical day on the adolescent unit consists of interacting with teammates and patients. Patients begin their day being encouraged and mentored by teammates before attending school. While in school, patients receive educational services based on their home school curriculum. After school, teammates provide structured skill building activities and interaction in varies settings. Patients have scheduled access to time in the courtyard with various activities, gymnasium with basketball court, library, and leisure room with gaming and televisions.
The HCT II works closely with the Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse manager to train and orient new HCT I’s, facilitate professional communication and provide feedback to improve processes and quality care. The HCT II role models and builds therapeutic and meaningful relationships between teammates and patients to facilitate patient success.
Shifts Available:
The Adolescent Unit is a co-ed, inpatient unit serving individuals from the ages of 12-17 experiencing a wide range of psychiatric disorders. The objective of the adolescent unit is to provide a safe and structured environment for crisis stabilization. The multidisciplinary treatment team targets a broad range of psychiatric illnesses and behavioral challenges with various therapeutic programs and educational groups including an inhouse accredited school. Nursing teammates, including Health Care Technicians, work closely as part of the multidisciplinary team to help patients meet their goals and transition back into the community. Care is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience;
Or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Condition for Continued Employment As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
“A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
This Sign-on Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. Additional information regarding the Sign-on Policy can be found here.
NOTE: For temporary, contract or other supplemental staffing appointments: There are no paid leave, retirement or other benefits associated with these appointment types.
