The Administrative Specialist I position will provide support to the overall function of the Behavioral Health section in the South Central Region, including all behavioral health staff in the region.  This position is located at the South Central Region Office in Raeford, NC and works in the Behavioral Health Department of the Department of Adult Corrections. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Behavioral Health for the South Central Region. 

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Position performs various office duties including answering telephones, composing email correspondence, filing, providing customer service, typing memorandums and generic business letters, completing charts/forms/reports, managing equipment inventory, scoring testing data, and tracking important documentation and activities of the regional staff.

  • Ensure staff have the tools and services needed to complete their job duties and operate efficiently.

  • Documentation and reporting of important activities that are required by statutes, regulations, and policy of the department and subject to audit.

  • Position serves as the point of contact for customer and community support.

  • Position may assist with the review of contract applications, scheduling interviews for potential contractors, and coordinating contractor schedules.  

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits

The Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.  Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
