Description of Work
Reporting to the Human Services Facility Director II / CEO, the Administrative Specialist I position is located at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women's Health Care Facility (NCCIW HCF). This position is responsible for providing HR and Accounting support to the Health Care Facility. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following :
- Processing various benefits, such as Separations, Leave of Absences (LOAs), Voluntary Shared Leave, Worker's Compensation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
- Communicating with facility staff members in person, by phone and via email about policies and procedures regarding benefits, benefit requests and / or clarification of specific benefits.
- Performing work within a Human Resources Integrated System (HRIS) and using Microsoft Office software.
- Reviewing confidential documents, verifying data.
- Assisting with the Hiring Process, scheduling interviews, preparing employment packages, completing employee references and background checks and new hire orientation.
- Tracking all purchase requests utilizing an Excel spreadsheet to ensure appropriate approvals are obtained prior to procurement of goods / services.
- Establishing and maintaining various accounting functions within the HCF.
- Maintain records using a personal computer and systematic filing system.
- Ensuring accurate and up-to-date reports on the availability of funds & composing monthly invoices.
- Serving as backup to the Accounting Technician in areas of accounts payable and other accounting functions.

Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
