Description of Work
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for a Boiler Operator for the Governor Morehead School for the Blind (GMS). Governor Morehead School is a residential school, responsible for providing educational instruction to visually impaired students in grades K-12 from across North Carolina.
This position has maintenance tasks to keep boilers operating continuously (24 hrs. daily) to provide steam for heating, cooking, and hot water using natural gas and #2 fuel oil. Analyze boiler water and feed water to maintain proper water treatment chemistry. Maintain accurate plant operating logs and water treatment records. Prepare boilers and equipment for annual inspection; repair plant systems and equipment to maintain efficiency. This position performs a variety of skilled trade tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of plumbing systems; water and sewer main services steam distribution system; hot water distribution system; and all other specialized systems or equipment. This position is an essential position which is required to report during adverse weather and required to work weekends and holidays and may be assigned to any shift to meet operational needs of the plants.
