The position is a Charge Nurse located at Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh, which houses approximately 1318 close custody male offenders. 

Position provides professional nursing care/treatment to patients in accordance with medical protocols in a supervisory capacity.  Employees in this role are responsible for managing and supervising daily nursing care on an assigned shift or assigned area, or in a preceptor role, coordinating all licensed and non-licensed staff.  Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • conducting needs assessments. 

  • developing, implementing, and evaluating treatment plans. 

  • providing patient care and education to offenders in a state correctional facility.  

  • sick call assessments, medication administration, phlebotomy sticks,

  • transcribing MD/PA orders, patient education, thorough medical documentation 

  • monitoring/treatment of communicable diseases and responding to emergencies.   

 

Position will be the Charge/Lead RN and may be required to work any shift, based on current needs of the institution, to include weekends and holidays, with limited clinical supervision.

 


**This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.** 

 

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary will be  $59,732  -  $98,557 . Prior applications will remain under consideration and do not need to reapply.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. 

 

The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
