The Child Psychologist is responsible for providing evaluation services to youth dually diagnosed with developmental disabilities and one or more mental health disorder as part of the NC DHHS Child Assessment Clinic (CAC). Secondarily, the Child Psychologist serves as a member of the FIPP developmental services team and provides support to early intervention program staff working with children 0-5 years of age and their families. Support is provided in the form of professional development, coaching, observing, joint visiting, and developing fidelity-to-implementation materials. The Child Psychologist supports program evaluation activities and other FIPP research projects through collaborating with research design, data collection, and interpretation. In order to be effective, this position must participate in on-site meetings. This role will also have opportunities to participate in the development of presentations, webinars, trainings, and publications based on the research and projects conducted.

About the Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP):

The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) is a community-based component of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. FIPP is an early childhood intervention and family support program that has been producing research and providing supports and services in western North Carolina since 1972. The overall mission of the program is to (1) promote optimal health and development of young children, especially those with or at risk for disabilities, through supporting and strengthening families in ways that enhance their growth and well-being; and (2) promote the dissemination of research, resources and professional development opportunities to improve the delivery of services to families and children.

  • Basic knowledge of the NC Psychology Practice Act.

    Management Preferences:
  • Completion of coursework for a Master's degree  in Psychology from an accredited university.
  • Experience working with children and adults with neurocognitive disorders and intellectual development disabilities.
  • The position requires knowledge and skills in infant-toddler mental health, cognition evaluation tools, mental health and trauma-informed evaluations and assessment.
  • The position  must be knowledgeable in addressing the emotional needs of children and caregivers.
  • This position must have knowledge and experience in dealing with early childhood behavioral challenges using asset-based, capacity-building, parent-mediated, methods and strategies.
  • The position requires strong organizational and writing skills (evaluation reports and other professional writing) and some experience with qualitative or quantitative research design.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with a minimum of three years of practical experience serving families with young children, excellent communication skills with children of different ages and cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge and skills in research design; program evaluation; ability to perform independent research; child and family development; child and family assessment; family support; program development.

 **Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
