What are the responsibilities and job description for the Compliance Auditor position at State of North Carolina?
***This position will have the capability to telework one day per week once fully oriented***
The primary purpose of the Compliance Auditor is to assist with or perform compliance reviews and audits of Holders to ensure compliance with N.C.G.S.116B. Such Holders can include banks and other financial institutions, insurance companies, manufacturers, retailers, public utilities, hospitals, and other private and public sector entities. This position will also assist Holder’s with their voluntary efforts to comply with North Carolina reporting requirements.
Job Duties:
- Plan and conduct Desk Audit examinations applying audit skills, accounting principles and audit standards to ensure compliance with Unclaimed Property laws (North Carolina General Statute 116B)
- Facilitate Audit Activity Performed by Vendors by reviewing and analyzing Audit Vendor proposals, assigning vendors to audits, monitoring audits, and facilitating vendor billing and payment.
- Provide education to holders of unclaimed property through telephone calls, emails and presentations to ensure compliance with unclaimed property reporting requirements.
About the Unclaimed Property Division:
The Unclaimed Property Division (UPD) is to collect and provide safekeeping for unclaimed and abandoned property, attempt to reunite unclaimed property with the rightful owners, and invest the monies collected to maximize the greatest earnings for the Escheat Fund. Earnings from the Escheat Fund are used by the North Carolina Education Assistance Authority to provide grants and low interest loans to North Carolina students in state supported schools of higher education.Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Proven ability to independently analyze and interpret complex financial records.
- Demonstrated ability to compile clear, organized and accurate documentation that supports audit findings and recommendations.
- Experience communicating effectively orally and in writing, using appropriate grammar and punctuation.
- Intermediate Analytical skills.
- Proven ability to multitask.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or in business administration or other field from an appropriately accredited institution with twelve (12) semester hours in accounting and one (1) year of accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting/financial statements and reports;
OR
Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of experience as specified above;
OR
equivalent combination of education and experience.
