This position is located at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm:  Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Supervisor I, this position is responsible for performing first-line supervisory work in large-scale food production and food service operations in a correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working a dual role, to include supervising offenders in their assigned food preparation, food production training, and food service work areas.Â
  • Overseeing offender workers engaged in various food production activities, to include, cooking, baking, and serving of food to the offender population.Â
  • Training offenders in the art of institutional cooking, baking, and serving while maintaining standards of sanitation in all areas of the kitchen.
  • Maintaining proper food storage, securing equipment, maintaining equipment, and evaluating daily the quality of work performed by the offenders.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.Â

 "As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $32,639 - $57,117." Prior applicants will remain under consideration and do not need to reapply.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
